When the Army called the village meeting shortly after the start of the flood event in February 2014, the key point made by the Army commander was that his soldiers could only help if they knew what the village wanted or needed. He urged the community to get its act together and create a working link with the Army and other emergency services to ensure that the community got the help and support it needed. To that end The Community Action Group was formed after the floods to consider the action of volunteers during those floods in order to gain a perspective, and develop plans, so that the village is better prepared to support itself when faced with a similar emergency situation.
The volunteer experiences of the February 2014 flooding event have been collated and will be used to support the Parish Council's development of its formal registered Flood Plan. As that plan develops we expect to be able to formalise the way in which volunteer support can be mobilised at an early and appropriate stage to provide support for the community.
Right now this is a work-in-progress and this part of the web site will be developed and updated as the planning process progresses. The aim is for the community to be better equipped before the onset of the next winter season.
